Marist Schools and Child Rights

Br. César Henríquez visits the Marist schools to talk about child rights

29/10/2008: Greece

From 6th to 10th October Br. César Henríquez, from FMSI Onlus (Fondazione Marista per la Solidarietà Internazionale Onlus), visited the Marist schools of Greece and met students and teachers, in order to present the Foundation, talk about children’s rights and illustrate the work the Institute is carrying out in Geneva in the field of children’s rights.

Br. César Henríquez was designated three years ago as the Advocacy Officer of FMSI Onlus, the Institute’s new non-profit organization, which inherited from BIS the mandate to advance the mission of the Marist Brothers at the international institutional level. He is the one who represents the Marist Brothers before the United Nations bodies and other international organizations working in Geneva in defense of children’s rights.

This was the first visit Br. César Henríquez organized for the Marist schools of Greece, but not his first presentation to the Marist schools of Europe: in March 2008 he visited, along with other members of the Foundation’s staff, San Leone Magno, the Brothers’ school in Rome, and Istituto Champagnat in Genoa (Italy). In both schools he talked to the students (primary school to high school level) and teachers about children’s rights, solidarity and Marist mission, looking for a better comprehension of the themes from a Marist perspective and for a personal commitment.

On the occasion of his visit to Greece, Br. César found that in 2007 a group of students formed a sort of club focused on Human Rights, doing research on the theme both at national and international level, and looking for contact with people engaged in human rights advocacy in Greece. A second group will start the same activity during school year 2008-2009.
