2009 meeting of CHMMF of the Province of Iberica

06/10/2009: Spain

This was the title of the main theme we worked on at the meeting of the Fraternities of Ibérica during the first weekend of September. The De La Salle Brother Antonio Botana opened up to us in simple and symbolic language the new challenge which the Spirit is offering to us all, Brothers and laity, in this new dawn of the Church. Antonio enlightened us “like a window letting in the light” in understanding this reality: charisms are for the Church, gifts from the Spirit of God for all humanity and for this reason, no one can claim them as their exclusive property.

There are many lay people who have perceived in their lives the call to follow Jesus according to a concrete style (a charism) which emphasizes some aspects of the Gospel message. For this, the future lies in uniting and integrating all those we feel invited to spread this charism (Brothers, laymen and women, priests…), in our case the charism of Champagnat, to be a more visible and meaningful SIGN in our world today, to perform better the mission which God entrusts to us of being educators of children and young people.

Rather more than 70 adults and our 33 sons and daughters spent some days of intense living together, in an atmosphere of close family and hope-filled challenge. In addition, we were also able to reap the benefit of the presence of other groups of young people, some interested persons, and five lay Marists from the Lay Movement of Catalonia, with whom we had an intense and rich exchange of personal experiences.

On Saturday, we dedicated the time to developing the theme of the meeting with periods of explanation from Br. Antonio Botana, work in small groups, and presentation in the assembly of things we had heard and the reflections they gave rise to. We spent the close of the day at the feet of the Good Mother, with a prayer in which the little ones were also present, and finally with a “festive supper” which was extended with song and dance.

Sunday morning was given over to general information: the performance of the Animation Team of the CHMMF in the province, notices on the European Council of the CHMMF, on the next Provincial Chapter and on the formation proposals which the Spirituality Commission offers in this course.

Joan Puig-Pey, the architect overseeing the work at the Hermitage, presented us with the new project under all its aspects, emphasizing the dimension of novelty and renovation, which will support not only the buildings but the projection of a center of spirituality and formation in the charism, with the presence of a mixed community of Brothers and lay people. Sergi Bernabeu, of the Lay Movement of Catalonia, shared with us the life in his province and the initiatives which have been realized or will be realized.

We finished our meeting at the Table of the Feast “around the bread” of the charism, of brotherhood, of the Word and of the search… All, as one family, offering God our lives and our desires to follow Jesus in the style of Mary.

We are especially grateful for the presence of Br. Antonio Botana at our meeting. It was also a gift to be able to share with the laity of another province. God willing, let there be even more of us next year!
