Lebanon-Syria: new animation team

08/10/2009: Lebanon

From 5 to 12 August we held the first meeting of the Lebanon-Syria Zone team: a week of intense work, in an atmosphere of communion and brotherhood. This week allowed us to begin the process of community building (Bâtir la communauté); we came to know one another through dialogue and prayer. A good part of the group rose at 6.30, and after breakfast, we had morning prayer, centred on the Gospel of the day. The followed reflection and planning on everything relating to the zone: Ministry, Solidarity, Formation, Finances, Operation Manual for Educational Works, team structuring… etc.

The principal change was to realize that we are not “islands” and that as Marists we should work together, unite forces, and be an example of community and fraternity for our students and teachers, and this begins with our team… so we took the decision that formation and ministry activities at all levels should be carried out as far as possible jointly. In fact, starting from this month, the formation of teachers, direction teams, and animators of ministry will be taken jointly by Aleppo, Jbail and Champville.

It is a beginning and faces many challenges in future, but we are convinced that, working as a team, we brothers and laity enrich and support one another and will be able to respond to the mission which “Jesus, the Lord” is entrusting to us today, to follow the example of Champagnat in the style of Mary, our “Good Mother”.

The team is composed of:
• Br. Georges Sabé, Delegate of Brother Provincial
• Mr. Léon Kilzi, Director of the Marist College of Champville
• Br. Carlos Mario McEwen O., Director of the Marist College of Jbail-Amchit
• Mr. Édouard Jabre, In charge of Ministry
• Br. Emilio Gutiérrez Tordable, In charge of Formation
• Mrs. Leyla Antaki, In charge of Solidarity
• Mr. Antoine Sfeir, In charge of Finance
