Diploma in Youth Ministry for Youth Animators

14/12/2009: Cuba

In view of the continuous changes the youth of Cuba are experiencing, the National Commission of Youth Ministry in the framework of its formation programme, is offering workshops for young animators as one of the useful instruments in the accompaniment of the young in their communities.

Because we believe that young Cubans cannot live their daily lives passively, without having to be the primary protagonists of the new Civilisation of Love, we wish to journey with them in creating a new way of providing leadership for themselves, in taking responsibility as persons in the forefront of this activity in the Church of Cuba.

The formation is directed towards young people with at least one year’s experience in the animation of youth ministry or with a serious commitment to offer this service.

The workshops were held by archdioceses: Matanzas: 18 to 20 September, with 30 participants. El Cobre: 9 to 11 October, with 50 participants, and Camagüey: 6 to 8 November, with 80 participants.

The methodology has been participative, striving to apply from the beginning what they have learnt in their pastoral activity.

The topics covered in the first module were the following:
1. Youth Ministry, description and characteristics in Cuba.
2. The current situation and culture of youth.
3. Human Development.
4. Pedagogy of Youth Ministry.

The requirements for taking part are:
1. To take part in the three modules or workshops offered.
2. To undertake the reading assignments before each module.
3. To take up, effectively, the service of Youth Animator on returning to one’s community.

We thank the Lord of Life and History for the opportunity of serving and for journeying together with Cuban youth to revitalize the YM and to shape a renewed Church for a new Cuba.

We ask the Virgin of Charity to continue journeying with the young and as our Good Mother to help us in finding and living the authentic Word which is born from faith and life.

Animator, risk your life for the youth!
Youth, risk your life for Jesus!
