The social activity of the « Colegio Champagnat » of Caracas dates back to the 60s and 70s. At the beginning, it involved sustaining the catechetical activities of the parish of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, but daily contact with the situation of the people, and especially their socio-economic conditions, aroused a desire to find ways and means to help them, so that these good people might better resolve their most urgent needs.
Wishing to respond to these call, a group of dental surgeons, mothers of students and former students of the school opened a modest dental surgery. These devoted professionals provided a totally disinterested and free service. These ideas and other questionings gave birth to the plan of setting up theChampagnat Foundation, created in 1990.
CEMASI (Marist Integral Health Centre) began operation on 20 May 2002 and has as its mission to promote quality of life for the most disadvantaged sectors, through medical care provided with quality, opportunity, and professional respect, based on the principles of honesty, equity and solidarity.
Our medical and dental services consist of 5 surgeries where consultations are given in paediatrics, family medicine, internal medicine, gynecology, outpatient surgery, dermatology, rheumatology, otorhinolaryngology and infirmary. More than 30 persons work in the centre (administrative and caring personnel), most of them former students and other lay people belonging to the great Marist Family.
Apart from the consultations, we conduct other programmes, such as:
The launching of the second part of the Project has not yet taken place; it is a dream we hope to realize as soon as possible.
