Pilgrimage to the Hermitage completes the three cycles

Courses in Champagnat Documentation at the IEM

17/10/2011: Spain

We arrive at the Hermitage to verify on site the traces of Champagnat, after having followed, investigated and studied for three years, by means of his letters in the three Cycles (A, B and C) of the course of CHAMPAGNAT DOCUMENTATION, organized by the HIGHER INSTITUTE OF MARIST STUDIES (IEM) of the Pontifical University of Salamanca.

It was in August 2011, on the occasion of the summer vacations, that a group coming from the Marist works of Oviedo, Madrid, Sevilla, Málaga and Salamanca, made ready to make the Pilgrimage to the Marist Places, which we had been preparing and looking forward to for a considerable time, as colophon to the Marist patrimony courses mentioned.

With our guide, Br Fernando Hinojal Citores of the Province of Mediterránea, professor and tutor of the courses, we traversed, children and adults, the interior of the Hermitage. We perceived the presence of Champagnat in the chapel, the gardens, the mission room, the community room, his bedroom, the tour of the plane trees, the cemetery, Br François’ herb garden, the house of the rock…, and the new locations constructed for the better stay and hospitality of the pilgrims.

We also detected the footprints, presence and closeness of Marcellin in the corners of   Rosey, the Montagne house, La Valla, Marlhes, Maisonnettes, Lyon, tracks, valleys, and mountains… Numerous images immortalize the Marist places. The specific prayer lived in each of them and the personal and group experience shared, made of these days a special oasis of Marist family encounter.

I would like to underline our gratitude for the welcome and attentions received from the communities ofRosey, La Valla and especially the community of the Hermitage. We thank each of their members who took great pains to make our stay as pleasant as possible. Our thanks also to Br Fernando Hinojal for his interest and the effort put into the formation received during the three years, and for his support and patience on this Pilgrimage, without which it would not have been possible.

We wish to continue relying on the formative spaces and places which bring us close to the Marist sources, to the same shared spirit and charism, that we have to carry into the heart of our daily mission.

A cordial greeting to all.
