Father Gilberto Salazar commenced his term as chaplain to the General House community on 1 January 2012. Father Gilberto was born in Marquetalia, Colombia, on 20 August 1982, son of Gustavo Salazar and María Ruby Zuluaga. During his childhood, he lived in his home town, where he attended primary school in the San Vicente de Paúl School. In 1994, he went to live in the city of Manizales, in which he completed his secondary studies at the Liceo León de Greiff. He graduated in the year2000. In   2001, he entered the major seminary in Manizales to do his studies in Philosophy and Theology. He was ordained to the priesthood by Mons. Fabio Betancourt on 29 November 2008. He themn worked as curate in the parishes of San José (Pácora-Caldas) and Ntra. Sra. de las Victorias (Santa Rosa de Cabal-Risaralda) in Colombia.

The current Bishop of Manizales, Mons. Gonzalo Restrepo, appointed Fr Gilberto to Rome, where he is carrying out his work of chaplaincy for the community, while studying Dogmatic Theology at the Gregorian University.

He is grateful for the wonderful welcome he has received from everyone. He has felt at home and hopes to provide a service based on generosity, accomplishing the will of God who has brought him to be chaplain of the Brothers’ community.
