Br. Jeffrey Crowe

Appointment of Provincialof the new Province of Australia

22/06/2012: General House

Having studied the results of the consultation, the Superior General and his General Council have appointed Bro. Jeffrey Crowe as Provincial of the new Province of Australia for a period of three years beginning on December 08, 2012.

Bro. Emili Turú has told thebrothers in its statement to the Province: “Brothers, as you continue on the journey towards the inauguration of the new Province in December, be assured that you go forward with our very best wishes. May this time be a moment of true grace not only for your Province, but for the Institute as a whole. Rest assured that you all are very close to us in thought and in prayer, as we discern together “a new consecrated life, with a strong Gospel identity, that will promote a new way of being brothers.”

Born in Sydney, I was educated by the Brothers from the age of 8! Since completing university studies in 1968, I have worked in Australia only 8 of the past 40 years. After teaching in Bougainville and leading a school in Solomon Islands (1970-78), I became the first District Leader of Papua New Guinea / Solomon Islands (1981-87). After post-graduate studies I worked full-time in Province administration (1989-1993), in community animation at first and then as co-ordinator of Province ministries. I was a member of the General Council (1993-2001), during which time I visited mainly in Africa, Asia, Pacific, Central-West Europe and was the final co-editor of In the Footsteps of Marcellin Champagnat. In 2002-2003, I worked in pre-novitiate formation in India and established a project for children affected by HIV/AIDS. In 2004-2007, I served as Rector of MAPAC, the Asia-Pacific post-novitiate centre in Manila, Philippines. In late 2008 I became Provincial in Sydney.
