Marist Family’s Pentecostal Meeting at Cham

Every two years the traditional Pentecostal Meeting of German Marists is performed at the Marist Secondary School in Cham. Pupils, former students and brothers met this year to spend light-hearted days rich in faith on the subject of “On the road with Mary and Marcellin.

Frank Aumeier, Chairman of the Association „Friends of the Marist Secondary School Cham e.V.” as well as teacher and school chaplain Johann Staudner were responsible for the preparations. With the visit of former Marist students from Zele/Belgium this meeting was again awarded with a certain international character.

The participants were quartered either in school or in the tent camp on the school grounds. In his words of welcome Frank Aumeier described the Pentecostal Meeting as a work in terms of lived Marist family in the spirit of Marcellin Champagnat. With a common walk late at night through the City Park and the subsequent meditation in the Church at the Calvary the first day found its contemplative conclusion. In the dark church the church room was gradually lit by the flaming fire in a brazier.

Then on Saturday the group work began. Three subjects were available which all of them had to do with the life and the work of Marcellin.

„Crib and incarnation“ – Here some youth carpentered together a crib. Another group designed a pillar on the terrace of the school auditorium on this subject.

„Community“ – Here students designed drawers which were added later onto a large table along with benches. This table has been faithfully modeled after the table at La Valla which was carpentered by Saint Marcellin with his brothers. Another group designed a second column artistically on the same subject of “community”.

„Cross“ – A large wooden cross was decorated with red and blue glass inlay which has now its place in the gardens of the Cham Marist secondary school as well as the table of La Valla. Also on the subject of the cross a group designed a concrete column artistically.

The adult participants of the meeting gathered for a round table talk and let their thoughts on the topic of „Marist heritage“ wander.

On Saturday night this year’s Pentecost meeting reached one of its highlights with the festively designed Eucharistic celebration. At the conclusion of the mass Rev. Chaplain Franz Pfeffer blessed the rosaries which were then presented to each participant as a remembrance and instigation for prayer.

With a little barbecue and common public viewing for the Champions League final Saturday at the school went on although the final result clouded the mood of the viewers for some time.

On Sunday morning a joint walk to the very old and historic church in Chammünster was on the programme. From Altenstadt the group took the rosary and moved on praying until they arrived at the destination. Of course it was an obligation not to miss the Ossuary before they took the way back to school in Cham. Once there this years’ 2012 Pentecost meeting gradually reached its end after an extensive lunch, not to say before individual thanks to everybody for the nice days in Cham which were enriched by busy hands of former students and teachers of the school and of course the involvement of the young people themselves.
