Diploma in Youth Ministry

A chance to build Church

13/08/2012: Mexico

A week of study allowing people to share their lives, talents, experiences, dreams; a week bringing together the Agents of Youth Ministry from eighteen cities of the lands of the two Marist Provinces of Mexico, from seminaries, religious orders, young people interested in training to accompany children, adolescents and youth.

From the beginning, we were invited to be Good News for others and to place in Mary’s hands the week we were beginning, thanking God for this marvellous chance to build Church.

The Diploma in Youth Ministry is proposed by the Province of « México Central » and by the Marist University of Querétaro. As disciples of Jesus, we seek to develop among the  agents of youth ministry the skills to study and reflect on the situations of young people and their social context, in order to encourage them to be party to the evangelizing activity in the Church, bringing a critical attitude with regard to their pastoral task.

This Diploma is destined for senior students (Bac and University), as well as the teachers accompanying the animation of Youth Ministry of their milieux.

As the days passed, the group became consolidated. The various activities transformed the prayer, the life in common, reflection, dance, etc. into opportunities for discovering talents.

During a walk, the participants met those who, day after day, live on the street, those who have not received a single loving gesture for a long time. Some asked : « Who is Jesus ? » ; others shared a moment of happiness ; others again let us glimpse the passion which filled their heart and how one can become a sign of life for others.

Thirty young people obtained their Diploma, after following for two summers the following modules : Human Development, Realities of Youth, Marist Pedagogy, Spirituality, Christology, Accompaniment of Youth, Creativity, Pastoral Planning.

At the end of the experience, those present were thanked for being able to form community; in fact, it was through the family spirit, the atmosphere of work, and the responsibility of each one that all could grow humanly and spiritually, while strengthening the bonds of friendship between the Agents of the Ministry.
