Last July 7th, 2012 -Saturday-, the Marist community of Nyakato (Mwanza) had the joy of celebrating brother DÉSIRÉ B. SHAMABALE’S final vows during the Eucharistic celebration, presided by the Parish priest of Nyakato (Mwanza – Tanzania), Fr. Anselem Somda, Missionary of Africa from Burkina Faso. Two more priests of the same community concelebrated the Mass. This Marist community is the postulate for the young men joining our Congregation in the East-Central part of Africa.

Witnesses to this celebration were in the first place, brother Désiré’s mother, and a delegation of family members who travelled from the Dem. Republic of Congo. Brother Désiré’s father, the late Mr. Alphonse Shamabale, was represented by Désiré’s elder brother.

In a simple but meaningful celebration, prepared by the members of this community and helped by the group of Lay Marists, the parishioners witnessed for the first time a celebration of final vows of a Marist Brother who has been working in the local Marist community of Nyakato.

Bro. Désiré was born in Minova, Bobandana parish, Goma Diocese, of the Dem. Republic of Congo. He attended the Marist school of Bobandana, where he was taught by several brothers, and he decided to join the Congregation in 2001, being a pioneer of the newly established postulate for East-Central Africa, at Nyakato-Mwanza. After his initial formation he developed his apostolic activities in the school communities of Kisangani and Kinshasa, before coming to work as formator in 2010, in the same place where he began his formation some years ago.

Brother Valetin Djawu, provincial of the East-Central African part of the Marist world, represented the Superior General and received the vows that Brother Désiré has expressed. The celebration was accompanied with beautiful hymns and included moments of expressing the joy of what the Lord has done for us, through dances.

This Marist province has a young age average among their members, promising hope for the future, where 60% of them are 40 yrs old or younger! We count with the blessing of having a good number of young brothers who will emit their final vows around this time. Let us keep praying for their perseverance.
