New Marist presence in Ménidi – Attikis

A social work to help primary school children

06/09/2012: Greece

Within the framework of extending and reinforcing their social work, the Marist Brothers have decided to open a new community presence at Ménidi – Attikis, Greece, which will consist of four Brothers : one French, Br Gérard Cuinet, one Spanish, Br Rafael Escolà, and two Greek, Brs Georges Vidalis and Georges Vidos.

This social work will take in at the beginning 20 to 25 primary school children from poor families who cannot afford to keep them regularly at school. Concretely, the children will go thecentre each day, to learn their lessons better, do their homework, take part in different cultural and sporting activities, and even prepare themselves spiritually as citizens of tomorrow. The general  co-ordination of the operations of the centre, which under normal conditions should be ready to open from September 2012, will be entrusted by the Brother Provincial ot a Marist Brother, while the daily activities would be undertaken gratuitously by teachers and other volunteers.
