15/03/2013: General House
From January 28 to March 1, the General Council held the customary plenary session for the beginning of the year. As is also customary, after completing their work, the Council invited the brothers and lay men and women who work at the General House to a meeting on March 7.
The meeting consisted of two parts. In the first, Br. Antonio Ramalho explained the topics that the Council considered during their meetings: protecting children, beatification of the Brothers martyred in Spain, appointments, the International Assembly for Marist Mission, the courses for formators in Manziana and El Escorial, the project on the Constitutions, new models of animation, management and government, Marist places, administration and finances, communications, the General House, the expanded council in Oceania, reflection on the form of belonging of the laity to the Institute, accompaniment of the Provinces, meetings with the various Secretariats, and the Council's calendar.
The second part was led by Br. Emili Turú, Superior General. Its purpose was to initiate a discussion and surface ideas on the celebration of the bicentenary of the Institute, which we will celebrate in 2017. The General Council wants to gather some opinions on this important event. Br. Emili invited those present to reflect on three themes: the purpose of the celebration, criteria to keep in mind, and concrete actions. They divided into four groups, and each one was able to express his or her own opinions. Then they gathered the results of their brainstorming and exchange of ideas in order to send them on to the General Council.
The next plenary meeting of the General Council will be held in June.
