The Marist community in Greece, faithful to the charism of Marcellin Champagnat, is helping the 35 hundred students in its two schools become “good Christians and upright citizens”.
Given that 95% of them are orthodox, it promotes and fosters ecumenical dialogue through shared Marian celebrations – Orthodox and Catholic – and conferences or projections regarding religious topics, besides the mutual respect characterizing our daily relationships.
This aspect of our ministry was emphasized by the Ecumenical Patriarch, His Holiness Bartholomew I, when a group of students from Nea Smyrni and Patissia went to visit him in Constantinople on March 23.
His Holiness, in a meeting with over 200 people, mostly students from all over Greece, mentioned the work done by the Marist School of Athens – the Lycée Léonin – in its two campuses. In this way he acknowledged the relationship between our Orthodox and Catholic students, and the ecumenical spirit we live every day.
