19/09/2013: Ireland
On Monday, 19th August the brothers in Ireland gathered in Moyle Park, Dublin, to inaugurate the refurbished community house at Moyle Park College. The work began in October 2012, and the community has lived in the house while the renovations have taken place. The verdict of the members of the community and the other Irish brothers is that the result was worth the inconvenience, as the house is now in wonderful condition. There are fewer bedrooms than before, but they all have en-suite bathrooms. The kitchen and dining room have been extended, and an elevator has been installed. The community chapel has also been transformed. Some of the former chapel furnishings have been retained, and incorporated into the new design, which is brighter, and contains significant Marist themes.
Brother Joe McKee, Vicar General, was present for the opening, and for the Assembly of Irish brothers that took place after the opening prayer. The brothers had an opportunity to reflect on the future of the communities, and the mission of the brothers in Ireland. After the Assembly Fr. Sheamus Walsh, a former Marist Brother, said mass in the community chapel. During the mass we celebrated the 60th anniversaries of profession of Brother Angelo Stewart and Brother Eugene Verdon. The day concluded with a celebratory meal in the refurbished dining room.
