To form Vocation – A living and formative experience

29/04/2014: Guatemala

Throughout the history of the Province of América Central, and of the Institute, alongside the Brothers, groups of lay men and women have arisen who have been involved in the educational, pastoral and administrative mission and who have shared not only responsibilities but faith, spirituality and life.  Many of them feel called in a particular manner to live their Christian vocation in the style bequeathed by Marcellin Champagnat.

With the aim of helping those laity who desire to make a personal journey of discernment and option for living the Marist spirituality and mission, the Province has given birth to “FORM VOCATION”, a living and formative experience for fostering deeper growth in their personal and Christian being and their Marist commitment.

For the experience, we are thinking of lay people: who manifest a desire of going further on the journey of development and commitment as Marists; with a high level of identification and with a level of adhesion beyond their professional work; in whatever areas of the work: fraternities, teachers, directors, pastoral workers, etc.; with a capacity for living an experience of   interiorization and silence.

The Form Vocation experience was held on 12-16 April in the Marist Formation Centre in Guatemala with laity from Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Puerto Rico.

Our objective: promote a living and formative experience for the laity of the Province of América Central who desire to make a personal journey of discernment and option for living on the basis of Marist spirituality and mission.

The formative axes we are working on: personal experience as the place where God shows me my vocation (human dimension); the following of Jesus as the place for meeting God and my vocation (Christian dimension); the Marist Charism as the place for encountering discipleship in the style of Marcellin (Marist dimension).

This was the first experience in the Province. What comes next? We do not know. Without a doubt, we all left the Meeting with the desire of being accompanied on this journey and more aware of this common Marist vocation which unites us and drives us to open new ways and new forms of expression.
