Marist Youth Ministry.Promote the formation of youth groups

22/08/2014: France

One of the orientations of priority of the 20th General Chapter was for brothers and laity to have avery significant presence among poor children and young people.Oneof the proposals for putting this into practice consists of establishing the direct evangelisation of children and youth at the heart of our pastoral activity. The Marist Youth Ministry,as defined in the reference documentof the Institute «Evangelisers in the midst of youth»,is presented to us as a privileged place for meeting the young and accompanying them in their experience of faith, both personal and communitarian, to help them discover the face of a living Church, young and close to them. One of the basic characteristics of Marist Youth Ministry is to propose the conscious, intentional and explicit evangelisation of young people.

The Secretariat of Mission of the Province of the Hermitage has also considered this call as a priority in the pastoral domain. Accordingly, the secretariat’s reflection and animation have lead it to promote, in the various countries, the formation and consolidation of youth groups.

In Greece, a youth group is underway. The group has met several times since the beginning of the school year. Young Greeks who participated in the International Marist Youth Meeting and the World Youth Day in Rio de Janeiro in July 2013 animate it.

In France, work began at the level of the co-ordination of educational works to develop groups in the network of the country’s educational works. Initiatives of presence with the various youth groups linked to the schools also continues at the local level.

In Hungary, it is envisaged to be able to commence some initiative along these lines with university students.

In Catalonia, accompaniment continues of the two Marist youth movements CMS and FAJMACOR.This year, the formation of all the Marist animators in relation to the document «Evangelisers in the midst of youth» has been completed. The youth groups already in place have also been relaunched based on different activities and support in the formulation of a work program for these groups.

At the provincial level also, different initiatives to promote these youth groups have been planned: participation of young people of the Province in the Youth Easter at Les Avellanes; possible meeting of the youth of the Province during the school year 2014-15 and some initiative srelated to the formation and support of these groups.
