Winter Olympic Games 2006

15/02/2006: Italy

As we know, the Olympic spirit can be condensed into three comparatives: faster, higher, stronger. In this context, the Catholic Church in Turin, strong with the riches of many elements – parishes, associations, movements, seminaries and religious congregations – will make the adoration of the Eucharist possible in the inspirational setting of some of the most beautiful churches in Turin.

“Heart to heart” (that’s how this original initiative was baptised) also wants to be an occasion of witnessing to a Church that prays and works. In this aim, the times of animation, of song and of welcome will be entrusted to associations and movements, in order to encourage understanding and collaboration. Hundreds of volunteers will be involved, as well as many religious congregations who will be united in their turn to the prayer of those who enter these churches, without forgetting about twenty choirs and musicians. Many contemplative monasteries from Piemont will participate in this small exercise and they will envelop in their praise this initiative that will unite the hearts of those who are participating in it…

Some figures:
1 – The Lord Jesus present amongst us.
3 – The churches open for adoration.
6 – The members of the secretariat entrusted with the organisation.
20 – The contemplative monasteries that have promised their prayers.
25 – The choirs that will animate the adoration.
44 – The religious congregations that will be present for the adoration.
102 – The volunteers entrusted with welcoming people during the adoration.
15.000 – The explanation leaflets in three languages on Eucharistic adoration.
20.000 – The candles that will be lit during the times of prayer.
?????? – Those who will pray with us before the Blessed Sacrament.
