FMS Message 34

17/03/2006: General House

The 7th General Conference reflected on how to distribute throughout the Institute the subjects it had treated. With his aim in mind, a DVD was sent to the Brothers Provincial, on which an abundance of documentation used during the Conference could be found. This document is available to each Province. Now, number 34 of FMS Message has been sent to each brother.

This magazine will preserve the memory of the 7th General Conference at Negombo, Sri Lanka from the 5th to the 30th September 2005. Its 108 pages, in colour, cover the work of the General Council’s Commissions and starts with a “Letter to my brothers” from the Superior General in a familiar style characteristic of the meeting at Negombo. The articles of the General Councillors responsible for four years for the six commissions of the General Council present the orientation of the Institute during the preparatory years to the 21st General Chapter.

The documents that follow trace the journey of the brothers and laypeople who are preparing to participate in the First International Marist Mission Assembly and indicate the new perspectives of the office of BIS at Geneva with ‘Franciscans International’. There is also a photo album which recalls the different times of the Conference and a brief report of the visits that the Provincials and the General Councillors made to various countries in Asia on their way to Sri Lanka.

Also found in the magazine are the statistics of the Institute up to the end of 2004. Finally, you can read throughout the major texts, brief reflections from the Brothers Provincial who know how to inspire the reader.
