Nearly 1,000 celebrate Bicentenary in Granada

'Bringing children close to God is an exciting responsibility,' says Superior General

23/03/2017: Spain

Over 800 Marists from the Mediterránea province celebrated the bicentenary in Granada on March 4, including catechists, Brothers, teachers and friends of the Institute.

The event, organized by the province’s ministry team, aimed at bringing together high school and university students involved in ‘Grupos de Vida Cristiana,’ to celebrate the founding of the Institute.

The participants, who gathered at the Marist School La Inmaculada, also travelled from Italy, Lebanon and Syria to attend.

Superior general Brother Emili Turú made a surprise videoconference with the participants, thanking the youth and expressing the need to take care of people.

He also labeled bringing children close to God through education and the ministry of Marist Works as an “exciting responsibility”.

Under the theme ‘Back to the origin to start over’ (“Volver al origen para empezar de nuevo”), the youth were motivated by the provincial superior, Brother Juan Carlos Fuertes, who spoke about what he called “Marists 0,0.”

He went on to explain the importance of being “a new version of ourselves,” rescuing our essence and identity of origin as a way of starting “a new beginning.”

Br Juan Carlos encouraged them to continue the path that others have paved in the Institute and to help the Montagne of today in order to continue to grow in their Christian life.

Several participants posted on social networking sites thanking the Institute for having made 800 people feel as one big Marist family.
