A civil association of Marist students and alumni is offering support to educate young victims of violence on the outskirts of Ciudad Juárez, Mexico.

Compañeros de Camino de Ciudad Juárez, or Traveling companions of Ciudad Juarez, which was created in 2005, offers scholarships annually to educate young people from one of the most drug-intensive cities in the world.

In addition to supporting them in their studies, the association asks the young people to take a year out to volunteer with indigenous people from the Sierra Tarahumara or in other areas in the country, with the group Jóvenes por el Servicio.

The association already has five students who have obtained a degree from the Universidad Autónoma de Ciudad Juárez.

There are currently 34 young people with scholarships in the Centro de Bachillerato Tecnológico Agustín Pro, two in the Universidad Marista de Guadalajara and 16 in the Universidad Autónoma de Ciudad Juárez.

Of the scholarships of the Universidad Autónoma, five have already completed their year of volunteering and are now studying law, mechatronics engineering, biology and sports training.

The Marist Brothers have three works in Ciudad Juárez: Escuela Primaria Isabel de Talamás, Escuela Secundaria Montesinos and the Instituto México de Ciudad Juárez, that includes kindergarten up to high school.
