Feast of Saint Marcellin at the General House

The communities of the General House with the laypeople joyously celebrated the feast of Saint Marcellin Champagnat. The Eucharist of the 6th June provided us with rich elements to nourish our meditation and invited us to sing a hymn of thanksgiving for the gift of Marcellin. As is said in the preface proper to the Mass of Saint Marcellin: “Gathered in a festive assembly, we raise, O Father, a hymn of adoration and of praise with the angels and saints in heaven!”

The principal celebration took place on Saturday the 10th June. This day of joy and of celebration gathered the brothers, the employees of the General Administration with their families, our neighbours, members of the General Administrations of the other branches of the Marist family, confrères from San Leone Magno, the priests of our parish, etc.

We should also mention the presence of some confrères who had just finished the renewal session at Manziana and the members of the International Commission of Economic Affairs who had concluded their weeklong work.

Brother Seán Sammon, Superior General, highlighted in his homily three revolutionary aspects of Marcellin: his relationship with the Holy Spirit, full of risk, which was transformed into charism, the foundation of an institute of teachers for evangelisation with educators who loved children, and finally, the foundation of a religious institute which by its way of life is the living memory of what the Church must be.

At the time of the prayers of the faithful and the offertory of the Mass, all the activities and the services of the General Administration were presented in a symbolic way. One of the highlights was a chain of photographs of the brothers who will form the first group to participate in the project of mission ‘ad gentes’.

The website also recalled the anniversary of Marcellin, who is a father for the brothers, a guide for laypeople, an apostle for young people and a saint for the Church.
