Attaining Happiness through focusing on my Vocation

Annual Retreats of the Marist District of West Africa

20/08/2019: Côte dIvoire

The Annual retreats of the District of West Africa, this year, took place from 21 – 28 July 2019, in Yaoundé (Cameroon), and 28 – 04 August 2019 in Divo (Cote d’Ivoire). Brothers from Chad and Cameroon came together at the National Episcopal Conference Centre in Yaoundé while Brothers from Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire and Liberia met together at the Neo Catechumenal Centre in Divo, near Abidjan. Rev Father Zephyrinus Mbuh (the Assistant National Education Secretary) was the facilitator at the Episcopal Conference Centre in Yaoundé. The theme for that retreat is, ‘Attaining Happiness through focusing on my Vocation’.

Br Oscar Martins (General Councillor) was the facilitator of the retreat at Divo, Cote d’Ivoire. The theme for this second retreat is ‘Community Living in the light of the New Beginning’. Br Oscar took us through various topics including: the calls of the 22nd General Chapter putting emphasises on our Vocation as Brothers, Marist leadership and relationships among Brothers, A New Marist Community open to God – Our Spirituality as Marist Brothers, The six important ‘Tables’ required in a Marist Community, the Plan for Community Living, a glimpse of the New Constitutions and a synthesis of the five days. The Brothers were very happy about the choice of topic for the retreat. It was very helpful to the Brothers as they said it will help them to live a new kind of family spirit in the coming year.

At the end of the retreat three Brothers: Joseph Asante, Aristide Yao and Paulin Tuo renewed their vows and recommitted themselves to the Marist mission of making Jesus known and loved among marginalised children and young people.
