28/06/2007: Brazil
From the 24th to the 27th May, the National Assembly of the Marist Mission in Brazil was held in Campinas. On this occasion, a group of brothers and lay Marists, representing all of Brazil, were able to share their local experiences and, together, deepen the objectives and identify the common challenges regarding the Marist mission, the mission of the Institute.
The points discussed by the participants mainly focussed on formation, the humanisation of management, the integration and promotion of life and of human dignity, the shared mission, evangelisation and solidarity. Through round table conferences, discussion, group dialogues, celebrations and fraternal gatherings, the challenges in strengthening co-responsibility between brothers and laypeople were consolidated for the realisation of the Marist mission.
The participants wrote an open letter which can be read in Portuguese by clicking here. In this letter they noted the challenges before them that must be overcome concerning formation, the humanisation of management, the integration and promotion of life and of human dignity, the shared mission, evangelisation and solidarity.
The letter finishes with the following words:
“Brothers and laypeople of Marist Brazil, we enthusiastically assume the prophetic nature of the mission and the Marist identity of making Jesus Christ known and loved, particularly among poor children and young people. Conscious of the central character of the proposition of Jesus, in the exercise of the presence of God, confident in the protection of the Good Mother and inspired by the life of Saint Marcellin Champagnat, our Founder, we confront with simplicity, audacity and hope the challenges that are presented to us as we build the Kingdom of God.”
