President of the World Union of Marist Alumni

16/02/2008: Chile

On 19th January 2008, Don Eulogio Heredia Arismendi died at Santiago in Chile at the age of 89. His long life was characterised by his constant effective contacts with the Marists, by the solidity of his entrepreneurial skills and his generosity as a benefactor and director of charitable institutions. In collaboration with the Marists, he was the President of the World Union of Marist Alumni. He took part in the 8th World Congress in Melbourne in January 1978 and was the witness of the change of mandate according to the Statutes. A 4-year period began, full of all kinds of activities. It is undeniable that the result of a time of great efforts made for the consolidation of the Federation was the organisation of the 9th Congress of the World Union of Marist Alumni, in Chile on 12-17 November 1982. At the end of his mandate, he passed his responsibility over the World Union to the President of the Belgium Alumni, Roger Schmitz, who was the last to exercise as President of the World Union of Marist Alumni.
Eulogio Heredia Arizmendi studied at the Institute of Chacabuco in Los Angeles, the first Marist College founded in Chile, which he left in 1933. He then continued his professional formation to enter the world of business. In the following years he moved to Santiago, where he settled down. His constant spirit of service led him to take part in many institutions such as the Rotary Club, the Spanish Circle, the Spanish Union Club and the National Federation of the Marist Alumni of Chile, among others. He was appointed President of the latter in view of his merits in expressing his Marist spirit. To this institution he devoted all his efforts, his working skills and his love for the Marist Family, creating a solid team inspired by his enthusiasm and his vocation to service.
