Brothers’ Gatherings & Release of the Virtual Choir Singing Salve Regina

Bicentenary - Calendar of activities

The date of the actual anniversary falls during the middle of the Christmas and new-year vacation period. Brothers are invited to gather to mark the bicentenary. They may gather at some of the larger communities, or at the holiday houses or elsewhere. It is the day on which the Adelaide Retreat finishes. The social gathering will be left to communities and Brothers to organise. A prayer will be prepared and provided.

Virtual Choir

This day will include the release of the Virtual Choir project. The virtual choir is a group of international Brothers singing a new Michael Herry rendition of the Salve Regina.

Local celebrations

A number of local celebrations are being planned for Monday, Jan 2, 2017. Most Brothers will be able to join with others to celebrate in a fitting way. There may be some other functions planned for the various holiday houses but what we know so far is outlined below:

Adelaide: The Adelaide retreat will conclude with a special mass and luncheon. In the evening there will be another gathering of Brothers at the Somerton Park community house for a B.B.Q. The contact person is Paul Gilchrist (0400 966 063).

Perth: Newman College has organised a mass and morning tea, 10.00 – 12.00, at St. Joseph’s, Subiaco, the site of our first Marist school in Perth. All are welcome, and Brothers from around Australia are free to invite their family members.

Sydney: In Sydney there are three options -
Hunters Hill – Midday BBQ at Champagnat House with people arriving around noon.
Randwick - Sit-down lunch at midday, please arrive a little earlier.

Campbelltown – A prayer and sit-down lunch in Schwager House at midday.

Brisbane: The Brothers at Ashgrove are hosting prayer at 11.00, pre-dinner drinks at 11.30 and a sit down meal at 12.00, in the Brothers’ dining room. Some local former Brothers may accept an invitation to attend as well.

Melbourne: Des Howard is organising a function for the Brothers who may be in Melbourne on Jan 2. At present Des is on a school immersion in the Philippines, so details will come a little later.
