« Water from the Rock » – Popular edition for Africa

05/05/2009: Kenya

Passing through Nairobi, Br. Teófilo took the opportunity to thank M. José Saldanha for a gift he has offered to all Marist Africa: 1 000 copies of «Water from the Rock ». M. José Saldanha is administrator of the company Kenyan Directories, whose headquarters are in Nairobi.

This is not the first time that M. Saldanha has made a gesture of great generosity towards the Marist Brothers. Twice in past years he has done the same thing. The first was when he offered the Association of Religious of Kenya 1 000 copies of the book “Religiosos, Evangelizadores na Igreja – A vida apostólica do Religioso Irmão apresentado em 17 Constituições”. This is a study (186 pages), from the apostolic point of view, of 17 Constitutions of male religious Institutes, presented during the celebrations commemorating the 100 years of the evangelization of Kenya, in 1995. The second time, when he offered the former Province of Portugal 3 000 copies of the first volume of biblical meditations of Br. Teófilo, entitled: « Bilhetes para Deus – Meditações a 10.000 metros de altitude ». This volume was published in 1997 and it numbers 606 pages.

The present of « Water from the Rock » for the African Provinces is a continuation of the previous gifts; it testifies at the same time to the friendship and esteem felt by the Saldanha family of Nairobi with regard to the work of the Marists.
