Summer community for students

A proposal from the Province of México Occidental

07/09/2009: Mexico

With the approach of the school vacations, from 14 July to 7 August, we brought together in Loma Bonita (former provincial house) the students’ community for the summer. This year we formed 15 lay people, 4 Sisters of Saint Pius X and a Marist Sister. The student community is part of the provincial endeavour for the formation of laity. This community receives us as teachers, former students and friends of the Marist Brothers from all over the country, in order to provide holiday courses in School Catechetics and Religious Sciences in the Marist University of Guadalajara.

We lived in an atmosphere of joy, companionship and work that manifested itself in the prayer, meals and work we shared. The full day of study was completed with the Eucharist and a time for evening prayer, without forgetting times for exchange, conviviality and fiesta.

It is notable the effort we make to leave our family and homes during this time in order to gain further experience of religious and catechetical formation.

Especially interesting was the living together with other groups in the same house, such as the students of the CEPAM course, coming from the various provinces of the Northern Arc; as with the community attending the university and the Brothers taking classes there during summer.

We hope that next year more teachers from our works will be encouraged to live this experience, so that together we may be able to make Jesus Christ known and loved, seeing in education the means of leading the young to an experience of the faith , and making of them good Christians and good citizens.
