Matilde Rosa Araújo Literary Prize

09/12/2009: Portugal

The Marist school of Carcavelos has won the Matilde Rosa Araújo Literary Prize– Revelation of Literature for Children and Young People / 5th edition – 2009, with a work entitled There was once a time… A World…, published by Editions Olha

This book, conceived in the field of the «PROJECT SPACE» programme by the students of class 2/4 of the Marist school of Carcavelos (school year 2007/200/ - Carlos Avelino, Carolina Flores, Diogo Açafrão, Inês Flores, Inês Rato, João Mascarenhas, Mafalda Barbosa and Tânia Serrano, with the collaboration of the pre-school and 1st year pupils), is composed of unedited texts and illustrations, each based on the work and personal formation of the two authors. The author and illustrator of each story have worked as a team, showing proof of great creative, critical and aesthetic ability. Their subject was MULTICULTURALITY, and, as a metaphor of social life, they have presented characters such as vegetables, ghosts, phantoms, fairies, horses and unicorns who live out their adventures by learning and teaching.

The book is for sale in the library of the Marist school of Carcavelos.
