Days of sharing, joy and brotherhood

28/08/2005: Spain

Two years ago, our goal was the Hermitage, looking for the origins of the Marist charism. This year, our goal was Rome. In the month of July, the University School « Cardenal Cisneros » began the journey. For a week, a group of teachers, some members of the Marist fraternity and some parents went to Rome for a pilgrimage, aptly accompanied by Brother Mariano Medina.
We went to encounter the roots of the Church. From the grave of John Paul II to the catacombs of Saint Calixtus, we experienced what the Church is, the strong love that makes us live with joy in its bosom, and the knowledge of all the suffering, joy and hope that the city of Rome carries.
We had days of sharing (we had a long time for the sharing during our round trip by boat from Barcelona to Civitavecchia). There was joy all along the numerous kilometres that we covered. We experienced the brotherhood of eating together, sharing our time, our fatigue, and our capacity to wonder. And with all of this, we had moving moments of prayer, like the Eucharistic celebration in the catacombs or the one in the church of Saint Mary.
The General House accorded us a magnificent welcome. We ate once with the community, we prayed in the newly dedicated chapel of St. Marcellin Champagnat, and Brother Seán greeted us with affection.

Upon returning to Salamanca, tired but satisfied, we left with the wish of the people of Israel: “Next year to Jerusalem!” In the steps of a certain Jesus…
And a wish: to extend this experience to other teachers, parents and members of the fraternity.
