We should raise a hymn of gratitude to God

InterProvincial Course –Latin America

07/09/2005: Guatemala

In Guatemala, 21 Brothers aged between 61 and 78, from the Provinces of Central America, Central Mexico, Western Mexico and Norandina have participated in the Interprovincial Course of Renewal and human and spiritual growth.
Under the direction of Brothers Antonio Rieu and Marcelino Ganzaraín we experienced a time of deep reflection; profound in content and from the opening group meetings we shared the agreed topics with great confidence. The great wealth of our ages was like the opening of a fan of profound communication gathered from the history of each one of us.
The psychologist Vinicio Morales accompanied us in making us aware of our being; that a degree of special maturity should already exist from the journey we had already made. And we can say the same thing of Julio Clubs, the doctor who directed us in the care of our physical health.
We were delighted to receive a letter from Brother Seán Sammon, with his timely greeting and good wishes for our personal development. We re-read the letter that he sent us in 2003 in personalized form.
Through the mirror of our Constitutions and the Documents of the XX General Chapter, we looked at ourselves, at our age, our consecrated reality, our spirituality and our mission. What a wealth of experiences we shared and ended up discovering! From the intimacy of our lives we should raise a hymn of gratitude to our good God, our Father who called us in Christ, took us to the desert, who spoke to our hearts and joined with each one of us in a new alliance!
The central act every day was the celebration of the Eucharist where we shared in threefold communion: with Christ in the Sacrament, with his saving Word and with our Brothers.
We had the marvellous opportunity of making real the Marist brotherhood, visiting the colleges and the schools of Guatemala and we thank all of the Brothers for the kindness that they extended to us all.
The course was very short, but when we return to our communities and Provinces we will try to live more thoroughly all that that the Brother Superior General indicated to us in his personal letter: Our personal commitment to the Congregation, lived in prayer, to be witnesses of Christs Kingdom for our Brothers and for those around us.
