Meeting of Young Brothers from Cono Sur

Cruz del Sur, District of Paraguay and Santa María de los Andes

23/02/2006: Argentina

From the 24th to the 30th January, a meeting of Young Brothers from Cono Sur took place in the Villa Marista de La Bolsa (Córdoba-Argentina). Brothers in temporary profession and those who have only been perpetually professed for a short time were called to this meeting in which twenty-two brothers participated, accompanied by their respective Brothers Provincial: from Cruz del Sur, Brother Demetrio Espinosa; from Santa María de los Andes, Brother Pedro Marcos and Brother Ángel Medina from the District of Paraguay, thus covering the Marist geography of Argentina, Chile, Paraguay, Bolivia and Peru.

The meeting was held in an ambiance of great fraternity, with extended periods of time for sharing our different personal experiences and situations. Brother “Juancho” animated a reflection that helped us to situate ourselves as Marist Brothers today in religious life and in the Church. We explored ways of being authentically Marist according to the characteristics of our generation to commit ourselves to living faithfully the vocation to which we have been called.

The day commenced freely around a cup of coffee. Then, after breakfast, a creative, existential and profound prayer shed light on the experience of the day. We should highlight the simple and transparent participation of each person, to situate his journey in contemplating this God who supports our daily commitment.

Workshops on subjects concerning the Post-Novitiate occupied our mornings: our life, the environment in which we live our consecrated life, etc. There were many times of sharing between the brothers, either in small groups or in the full assembly.

The afternoons were reserved for a walk, a game of soccer or a swim in the river. It was a matter of spending our free time together to share the daily life in our Provinces and in our District. Since several brothers already knew each other, the exchanges were frank, deep and stimulating. We finished the day with a celebration of the Word.

These were days full of life, of interior renewal and encouragement for our Marist life which presents us with great challenges concerning spirituality, community life and mission. They remain for us good fruit that will help us to advance as consecrated young people, confidant in this God who accompanies us, as he has done in other times on our land of Latin America.
