Retreat at The Hermitage

Easter at Mitagong

09/06/2006: Australia

About fifty Marists spent the Easter weekend in a serene environment with opportunities for prayer, liturgy, discussion and activity as they gathered to reflect on and celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus. Within the community that was formed there was a sharing of faith, and a sense of belonging and friendship.

The Marist Easter retreat was held at the The Hermitage, Mittagong in the picturesque Southern Highlands of New South Wales, Australia. The retreat began on Good Friday morning, 14th April and concluded on Easter Sunday, 16th April, 2006. The liturgies of the weekend were considered to be real highlights, especially the Stations of the Cross on Friday afternoon at which The Hermitage Way of the Cross was officially blessed and the Easter Vigil mass on Saturday night. Other activities were presented as workshops and included discussion groups, craft and prayer experiences.

Easter at The Hermitage now has a twenty-one year history with the first gathering held at Easter in 1986. Over the years thousands of Marists have participated in Easter at Mittagong.
