“San Marcelino Champagnat” Pastoral and Services Centre

04/10/2006: Colombia

Giving to others must be primordial in the Marist life: that is why we have inaugurated this centre where we help the poorest community to the south of Bogota, through programmes of human promotion which aim to give dignity to people under the Marist seal of solidarity.
This day was full of joy and of hope in a better world full of expectations facing future challenges. This was a Marist feast where all the people participated to make a work of love of Christ amidst the poorest people. This beautiful celebration started with the holy Eucharist as a symbol of fidelity to Jesus and to his message of love. Following this was a cultural act in which the people of different groups showed their creativity and their capacity to give.
The different Marist groups, with a profound spirit of “living the love of Champagnat” were present in this special moment. These groups included fraternities, groups of laypeople, the great majority of brothers who are in Bogota, and different ministry groups of children, young people and adults.
It was very satisfying to see the enthusiastic and happy faces of the children, the young people, adults and older persons who will be the direct beneficiaries of this “San Marcelino Champagnat” Pastoral and Services Centre. These faces were marked by continued hope and the firm vision that great things are marked by the simplicity of the most humble because in them is found the tender face of God.
Finally, we would like to thank so many people who, by their lives and good works, show us that charity is the best way of encountering the living Christ.
Brother Nelson Eduardo Cardona, fms.
